Lanai Design: 5 Beautiful Homes That Connect With Nature

lanai design

Surely as comfy as it gets, it might end up being your favorite place to take a nap. Wood is undoubtedly a popular choice for lanai flooring, however, tiles are also an ideal way to go. Real leather wouldn't last long on a lanai due to the intense sun and potential rain. This lanai uses the sleek and durable material in a dark shade for lounging furniture that's been paired with bright purple pillows to match the vibrant trees.

Lanai Room Ideas

They make excellent plant stands, showcasing your favorite tropical foliage. Moreover, they’re not just visually pleasing but also wonderfully durable. The resilience of bamboo ensures your shades withstand varied weather conditions with nominal wear and tear. Additionally, these shades are eco-friendly, appealing to those with an affinity for sustainable decor.

How much does it cost to install a veranda patio?

As a result, many lanais can be decorated like an indoor space, as there’ll be less chance of the furniture getting affected by the elements. In contrast, patios are much more exposed, meaning they should be furnished with outdoorsy pieces and materials. It’s safe to say that these structures are nothing alike design-wise.

Cozy Retreats

Use a strategic arrangement to accentuate areas, such as the entrance to the lanai or seating area, to make your outdoor space even more inviting. For a cohesive look, match the lounge chairs’ color and style with other lanai furniture and accents. Remember, optimizing the layout of your lounge chairs depending on your pool’s shape and size can transform the overall aesthetic of your lanai. Choosing the right poolside lounge chairs significantly enhances comfort and relaxation. Look out for those made with durable, waterproof materials to withstand outdoor conditions.

Pick a spot where the wind often blows, yet out of the way of foot traffic to prevent accidents. A corner near a seating area or on the beam of the lanai ceiling might be ideal. Have fun personalizing crates with a lick of paint or a stencil design for that truly one-of-a-kind feel. Not only do these rustic additions oomph visual appeal, but they also solve storage issues, keeping clutter out of sight.

Opt for materials such as teak, aluminum, or synthetic wicker that can withstand outdoor conditions without compromising on comfort and aesthetics. A lanai, however, is designed to function as an "outdoor room" and more of an "indoor/outdoor hybrid" space, she adds. Additionally, lanais are designed to be usable for a larger portion of the year due to the fact that they're mostly enclosed. A slat wall, exposed brick wall, or a stone wall will add natural elements to your lanai. Complement these elements with wood, concrete, or rattan furniture details or contrast them with sleek acrylic, glass, or marble details.

lanai design

Pieces with clean lines and a slim profile will make the space feel visually lighter. For a smaller lanai, try a bistro table instead of a full-size dining table. String lights are a popular choice for lanai decor and for good reason they look great. They come in all shapes and sizes, so you’re sure to find something that suits your taste.

Crazy for Color

Strategically placing tall plants, hedges, or trees around your lanai can provide an instant sense of privacy. Opt for fast-growing varieties that can quickly fill in the space and create a natural barrier. With a freshly designed space, you and your family will wander to the lanai for many reasons throughout the week. Whether it's a dreamy day in the sun or a cool evening with sea breezes sweeping in, you might want to spend as much time as possible enjoying your lanai.

Design a stunning extension of your home with a stylish lanai layout. Simple updates and elegant decor touches bring modern home design trends to your space. Your newly decorated lanai will quickly become your new favorite retreat and the entertaining hub of your home. Reclaimed wood can add character to any stylish space on top of functionality when used for furniture.

Don’t be afraid to mix and match styles when decorating your lanai. Note that lanais differ widely depending on their layout and design. However, what I outlined above is how they’re generally constructed. For these reasons, a lanai also adds value to a property, especially in states like Florida or Hawaii where they’re such a fundamental part of the local architecture. If you want some extra privacy, you can always add screen enclosures to one or more sides to keep curious eyes, annoying insects, and excess heat out of your lanai. The lanai is an embodiment of the reverence that we have for nature and social spaces.

If you want a more sophisticated look, try adding some texture to your accent wall. Reclaimed wood and exposed brick walls are great ways to add subtle personality to your space. But so often those who are lucky enough to have one don’t know what to do with it. They’re a space where you can partake in dining or find peace and quiet while feeling more in tune with nature.

Lanais have become a staple in Floridian architecture, and they can significantly bump up the value of a property in the area. Homeowners in the Sunshine State like to furnish their lanais as they would any other room of the house. They also like to add screenings or glass panels to keep the furniture protected. As I said before, this essential piece of Hawaiian architecture is so unique that there’s no single word that can accurately capture it in the English language.

Remember, it’s all about creating your very own slice of paradise, a tranquil space to rest and recharge, enfolded in the welcoming arms of nature. They mimic a true flame’s flicker but use solar energy to light up, meaning no fuel or matches are required. Not only do they contribute to setting the mood, but they are also an excellent way to keep your lanai lit without any additional cost on your electricity bill. Smaller pots are ideal for succulents or cacti while larger vases can hold lush greens or vibrant flowers. Ceramic, being a durable material, withstands different weather conditions and can last for a long period.

Ipe, cumaru, tigerwood, Brazilian Oak, Brazilian Redwood, and cambara are all tropical woods that make perfect choices. These woods not only look beautiful, but they’re hardy, so your lanai will be durable. Decorating your lanai with plants gives you the opportunity to try out ones that don’t thrive indoors. If you really want to make a statement, go beyond the accent wall and add color to the whole space. A lanai is a perfect place to be daring and experiment with color.

While turning ideas into reality, homeowners shouldn't hesitate to contact screened porch professionals. They will help you shape your ideas into both great looking and cost-effective solutions. When choosing materials for your lanai, durability and low-maintenance requirements are essential considerations. This veranda has a neutral-toned desert vibe that brings the outdoors into this sitting space with sandy colors and living plants. Although you have heard the terms, you may be wondering about the difference between the outdoor spaces.

Consider how you plan to use your lanai and how the space can be optimized for different activities. Whether you envision a cozy reading nook or a spacious entertainment area, thoughtful space planning is crucial to ensure the lanai meets your needs. "There’s just something so luxurious about having a TV in an almost outdoor room," Storms adds. Design the new heart of your home with professional lanai decor ideas.

52+ Cool Halloween Nail Designs Of 2023 Spooky Edition

halloween design nail art

Since the design is just on two accent nails, it’s not too overwhelming of a pattern. These stampers can be used for the French tips if you’re doing this at home. Stiletto tips and clip art-inspired designs have a way of adding a retro spin to Halloween designs. If you like to think outside of the box, then ditch your pumpkin manicure and find a nail artist that can recreate this monster-approved design.

Purple Pumpkins & More

All you need are three colors—white, yellow, and bright orange—to create an easy treat-inspired nail look. Try it and trust us, it’s bound to be your sweetest mani ever. Choose a glittery Halloween-colored base like orange, purple, or green. Nail art is much more achievable when you opt for a single accent nail. For this set, start with a classic almond-shaped French manicure on four out of five fingers. (To add a minimalist twist, consider painting every other nail black.) Then, add tiny white and/or black ghosts to your designated accent nails.

Orange Foil

To copy this look from @naileditbeauty, you can paint white ghostly shapes on your nails and draw the eyes and outline them with this brush. These little eyes are kind of spooky but you wouldn’t realize till you stopped and looked at your nails for a second. Some nails are longer though, because you need room to fit their intricate, detailed designs, so if that’s your thing, you’ll have options too. Opt for nude or neutral nails with slashes of orange and black. Or make it your own with slime green, hot pink, or blood red.

Cute Halloween Abstracts

Happy ghosts paired with colorful flowers and hearts have us feeling nostalgic for the '90s. If there ever were a Lisa Frank Halloween mani, this would be it. This manicure blends together the spooky design with classic French tips. It may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think Halloween (unless you're a Hocus Pocus fanatic), but these black flame nails give off a scary vibe.

Nothing is reminiscent of summer like fresh, delicious lemons. This festive blue, yellow, and green mani is almost as good as a freshly-squeezed glass of the good stuff. Metallic accents have also taken center stage, adding a hint of glamour to your spooky ensemble.

Crocodile Coolness

"The brighter the better for summer!" Escobar and Geer says. "Pairing neon colors with a nude to match your skin tone or touches of black will make the colors look even brighter." These are all the cool Halloween nail designs trending in 2023.

Bloody Ombré

We never thought we’d find spiders adorable until we saw them on this cute purple mani. The itsy bitsy spider legs are easy to paint on with an ultra-thin paintbrush. Add yellow dots for tiny bodies and you’ve got a last-minute nail art idea that’s packed with Halloween spirit.

How to do Gel Nails At Home: Easy DIY Beginner’s Guide

This DIY take includes full-on edgy glitter for a fun design. Cast a (literal) spell with a bone font design on your nails. Go with 'spooky' or choose another word that fits on your fingers, like 'bad witch' or 'haunted'. To help you find a Halloween mani you'll be stoked to wear come October 31, we've rounded up the 50 most eye-catching designs. Get ready to screenshot and scroll to see the best Halloween manicure ideas for 2023.

Take a break from your classic white for a freaky surprise instead. You can use a dotting tool or a striping brush to create uneven lines and achieve the dripping effect. This manicure uses a rainbow of hues to make the kitschy pumpkin nail art pop. This beautiful, intricate-looking web design is actually simple to re-create with a nail polish pen.

Spooky season is finally here, meaning it's time to prep and perfect your spooky makeup look of choice and, most importantly, your Halloween nails. No matter your style, there's a set out there for you—from classic fall nail ideas to festive black and orange manicures and pumpkin nail art. Whether you want to go extra spooky or super chic, we gathered the best designs to gear up this October. You can borrow inspo from classic horror movies like Scream and The Nightmare Before Christmas, as well as seasonal snacks like candy corn. Or, you can spice up your basic black manicure with some cat eyes or spider webs—and we even threw a few minimalist looks in the mix. So, without further ado, here are 60 Halloween nail art designs that you can do right at home.

You can even ask your nail artist to paint scenes or characters from your favorite horror movie. A little quirky, a lot cute, and endlessly fun—this black and white Halloween nail art design has it all. Paint vertical stripes with black polish on a white base for a stitch-like effect (see pinky), dot on eyes, and add zig-zags for Frankenstein vibes (see middle finger). The look is super easy to achieve but captivating and unique for the spooky season. Nail designs can err on the simpler side or incorporate complex elements that mimic tiny fine art paintings. Some of the advanced nails utilize more than two colors and layer motifs while incorporating things like glitter and crystals.

In addition to the exhibitions, our visual art calendar includes gallery talks, workshops, demonstrations, curatorial collaborations, and art sales, which create an environment where both artist and viewer can be creative.

El Corazón Exhibition

It presents exhibits and over 200 performances, concerts, festivals, workshops, lectures and other events per year. The Bath House Cultural Center is the first of six neighborhood cultural centers built and operated by the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs. It is located on the east shore of White Rock Lake in east Dallas, Texas (USA). The Bath House remained a social and recreational hot spot for over two decades, but was forced to close in 1953 when swimming in White Rock Lake was discontinued. The majestic building sat vacant until 1978 when, urged and supported by a dedicated group of neighborhood arts activists, the City of Dallas announced plans to restore the building.

The Bath House (one of the first Art Deco buildings in the southwest) is a Dallas Landmark and was originally completed in 1930. It was designed by Dallas architect Jon Carsey, who was influenced by the Paris Exposition of 1925. When it opened, the Municipal Bath House (as it was then known) was used by the citizens of Dallas as an escape from the summer heat. There was a sandy beach that extended from the building out into the lake, locker rooms on the ground floor and concession stands in the basement. In 1958 the Bath House closed and swimming was prohibited to allow the lake to be used as a water supply for the city.

After closing in 1953 when swimming was discontinued at the lake, the Bath House Cultural Center was reopened in 1981 with the support of neighborhood arts activists. The Art Mart showcases different artists from Texas (usually around 40). The artists work in a wide variety of media, including, painters, photographers, sculptors, metal workers, jewelry makers and many more.

EVENT CALENDAR

The partnership between the cultural center and Mr. Vargas has become a consistent and anticipated event in the local arts scene. In 2024, El Corazón continues its tradition of providing a platform for artists to showcase their work and engage with a diverse audience. The exhibition is a testament to the rich artistic landscape of the region, fostering community and creativity among participants. As stated by the Curators, “Through our series of exhibitions titled Son de Allá y Son de Acá, our goal is to bring awareness to the Chicano/a and Latino/a creatives living and working in underrepresented and marginalized areas. We aim to bridge art communities, create awareness of new voices, foster communication, increase opportunities, and expand our understanding socially, culturally, and historically between artists across state borders. This cross-border exchange highlights the shared historical and socio-political ties between states within the U.S.-American Southwest, predating the Spanish conquest to current complexities at the U.S.-Mexico border.
