When you apply for your licence online, you will be required to upload your First Aid with CPR certificate. You will be required to provide proof of First Aid with CPR certification for the provider and any employee. First Aid needs to have been issued by an approved first aid training agency. Filming involving loud special effects, gunfire, etc. requires a larger notification area within the general vicinity.
The presence of the Calgary Police Service and/or Fire Department staff may be required during this type of filming and will be coordinated by the Creative Industries office. Automobile third-party liability insurance in the amount of not less than $1M inclusive limit covering all vehicles used in connection with the film-making activities. Commercial general liability insurance for the production company in the amount of not less than $2M CAD inclusive limit for any occurrence. The City of Calgary and Calgary Economic Development must be named as an additional insured. If you would like to use a park or any other City facility for filming or still photography please complete and submit a Parks use permit application and be sure to include a map.

A discretionary change is required when the “use” of the space is changing and the new use is discretionary within the land use district. A discretionary change of use can include a request to relax one or more land use bylaw rules. The change of use required will depend if the “use” of the business is permitted or discretionary, and if a relaxation of a land use bylaw rule is required.
Licences for this category are typically in the form of a photo identification card issued in person once required approvals are completed. You can begin the application process through your online myID account. Depending on how you are operating and your location, a building permit may be required for a new business or a business changing ownership, even if there is no construction planned. Upgrades to the space may be necessary to bring the space into compliance with the Alberta Building Code and all applicable health and safety standards.
Informal arrangements with family members, friends and neighbours are exempt as these individuals would not meet the threshold of a business or commercial enterprise under the bylaw.
